The Arts Alive Award for Culture recognizes an individual(s) who has
displayed excellence in the field of cultural development within the Halton Hills community. This year the recipient of this Award is the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 120 (Georgetown Legion).
In most towns, the local Legion is not known as a key cultural force but in Georgetown, our Legion, branch 120 recently undertook to create a beautiful large mural depicting the three major wars and the peace-keeping that Canadian forces participated in. Continuing this progressive record, the Legion recently accepted a proposal to transform a large room in their building into a lovely gallery/teaching facility for the visual arts. With the support of Antonina Gladkova of Art Hoot, the BIA and the Cultural Roundtable, the Legion has received a Trillium grant to refurbish what will be a wonderful addition to the downtown space where local artists can display their work and budding new artists can be mentored. The project is aiming for completion by the fall of 2014. Thank you Legion members for being such strong leaders in our community!
